Opportunity Empowered is a program launched by the Urban League of West Michigan in partnership with Heart of West Michigan United Way. Residents with grassroots ideas can participate in this opportunity to empower community voices by ideating, identifying and prioritizing solutions to community identified issues.
This is an opportunity for those who may already be operating small scale out of homes and churches, etc. and are looking to elevate their idea.
Program Overview:
Opportunity Empowered is a program launched by the Urban League of West Michigan in partnership with Heart of West Michigan United Way.
Residents with grassroots ideas have participated in this opportunity to empower community voices by ideating, identifying, and prioritizing solutions to community-identified issues. The community voted to choose the Top 20 to “pitch” their ideas at a funding party. The Top 20 Initiative Owners would meet for 5 weeks to pitch prep working on how to create a pitch, learning how important data is in storytelling and stage presence.
Opportunity Empowered invests in community-driven initiatives that create lasting change across Grand Rapids. Through pitch competitions, business training, and direct funding, we empower entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and community leaders to transform bold ideas into reality.
